Tolerance does not require that we embrace all of the ideologies and lifestyle choices we encounter in our dealings with others. Indeed, tolerating alternate viewpoints is a matter of acceptance rather than acquiescence. We understand that the beliefs and opinions that add value to our experiences will not necessarily benefit others in the same way, and we respect their right to choose their own paths in life. When asked to explain our ideals, we may expound upon the thoughts and feelings that have inspired us to adopt a certain viewpoint, but we will not lecture or cajole those who believe differently in an effort to change their minds.
